Rachael Kilgour and Sara Thomsen

Duluth/Superior area singer-songwriters Sara Thomsen and Rachael Kilgour return to Stagenorth, June 3rd at 7:30pm.  Longtime friends and collaborators, the two musicians will perform together a mix of their own works and their favorite classics.

sara thomsen image“Thomsen’s soulful voice, poetic lyrics and unforgettable melodies cut through to the heart and the soul of human experience,” Minnesota Women’s Press proclaims.  With a voice rich as the best mid-west soil, her songs carry you inward and outward—in, to the particulars of your own life, and out into the shared humanity of us all.  Her performance style is easygoing and full of humor and depth.  Thomsen has released four solo albums and is the founder and artistic-director of the non-audition Echoes of Peace Choir and the vocal trio Three Altos.

rachael kilgour imageKilgour has built a devoted following over the last five years, captivating audiences with a balance of provocative, topical lyrics, passionate musical delivery, and a charmingly witty stage presence.  She sings about love and family well, but her most memorable songs are those that touch on societal shortfalls and our own potential to create change.  Kilgour’s second solo album, “Will You Marry Me?” was released January of this year.

Thomsen was the winner of the Minnesota Folk Festival’s New Folk Songwriting Contest and Kilgour was a finalist in the Big Top Chatauqua Songwriting Contest.  Both musicians won Top Finalist awards in the Public Domain Foundation’s national Music To LIfe Contest, created by Noel Paul Stookey (of “Peter, Paul and Mary”) to recognize songs of sociopolitical concern.

Kilgour credits Thomsen as one of her most influential mentors.  “Sara is the most genuine person I think I’ve ever met, in every single thing she does.  It’s a thrill to be performing with her again.”

The pair plan to take the show to a handful of midwestern cities in the coming months.
