History

StageNorth Theater was created by founders John Weinel, Ana Weinel and local artist Jan Lee. As a young student and member the Wayzata high school band, Mr. Weinel was inspired by the 1978 Wayzata Wind Symphony created by John Paulson. A production featuring a mixture of classical music and sketches performed by the band. This performance became the original inspiration for StageNorth. John and Ana were drawn to the beautiful Chequamegon Bay Area, and in 1999 they found a home for StageNorth in small church on Washington Ave. After the church had been renovated for theatrical works, the first production of "Our Town" was planned to open holiday season 2000. Unfortunately the production was delayed by a great lakes snowstorm. StageNorth's doors officially opened the first week of 2001. Our new facilities on Omaha St began construction in 2006 and were completed for our grand reopening in 2007.
